 | The history behind our bloodlines... |
|
|
In General
|
We mentioned already that considerable thought had gone into the breed planning of our dogs and what type of breeding results we could expect. When we look towards breeding, what we are really doing is looking at an attempt to transmit a series of desired traits and characteristics to a new generation of dogs while limiting undesirable traits. We look for friendliness, attention span, stability and solid nerves, for protection training a firm full bite, in all of our dogs we want good obedience capabilities, high ball and play drive which we believe is a key to the trainability of a good dog, and of course healthy physical structure.
In a great many of today’s championship working Malinois we see certain common ancestors that appear with regularity. While not an absolute guarantee that a given litter will be great, these dogs from the past certainly have a proven capability to pass on many desirable traits.
A small overview of some of the great ancestors of our dogs below and some history of how some famous kennels where the foundation of today's modern Malinois.

|
Elgos du Chemin des Plaines was a French Malinois who was world champion in Mondio Ring, Champion in French Ring III and Belgian Ring I. From 1995 he was owned and handled by Joefarm a well established kennel in Belgium. In addition to Elgos a great many Joefarm dogs appear up in championship pedigrees. These dogs are well sized, some would say elegant and are extremely well balanced. Elgos is said to have sired more champion dogs than any other dog. Elgos was noted for an incredible strong firm grip and passed this trait to his progeny. Elgos had great speed and agility and tremendous endurance.

G’Bibber was a well known ring champion and a prolific sire who helped provide part of the Des deux Pottois line Foundation. G’Vitou was the father of G’Bibber. He was known to be hard, aggressive and stubborn. He was a prolific stud and provided strong traits for courage and protection. There are many other Des deux Pottois dogs in the lines of successful dogs today such as Eik, the traits are well appreciated and well established. Another well known line was Du Boscaille in Belgium, this was owned by the late Regis Lebon. The dogs were known to be hard and powerfully built. Perle de Tourbiere Kennel in the Netherlands has produced well known dogs such as L’arco and Othar. These dogs have sired a great many successful KNPV dogs. The Perle de Tourbiere dogs are known for their sharpness, occasional stubbornness, and great speed and strength. They are usually on the large side. These dogs have formed part of the foundation for many successful modern lines.

Some background about the oldest bloodlines

Current Working Malinois Bloodlines
The state of the working Malinois would not be in the position it is today if it was not for two Belgian Kennels - des Deux Pottois and du Boscaille.
The 'Deux Pottois' kennel introduced the very important bloodlines of Arat (also known as 'Dick I'), Mandro, Blondeau, Debber and Eik des Deux Pottois (also known as 'Meno'). The kennel based their breeding program mainly around the 'Dick I' bloodline which was accessed through Arat's most influential descendants: Dick II, Gordon (also known as 'Tarzan') and brothers Snap, Louki and Cartouche. Cartouche in particular, produced a number of offspring who were found to be very important foundation breeding dogs. In fact it would be difficult to find a current working pedigree which doesn't include either of his two most influential sons: G'Bibber and G'Vitou des Deux Pottois (also known as 'Varack'). G'Bibber was an excellent working dog and became the 1987 St-Hubertus Belgian Ring Champion while G'Vitou des Deux Pottois "Varack" was untitled and obtained purely for his bloodlines. They both produced extremely well when they were bred back to the 'Dick I' bloodline, examples of this are: L'Cosaque des Deux Pottois (G'Vitou des Deux Pottois / Ola van het Groentenhof) G'Vitou des Deux Pottois "Varack" (Cartouche => Arat "Dick I" / Josque => Dick II) Ola van het Groentenhof (Leopol "Jack" => Debber, Blondeau / Faria => Arat "Dick I") Horsy des Deux Pottois (G'Bibber / Josque) G'Bibber (Cartouche => Arat "Dick I" / Yourie => Arat "Dick I") Josque (Dick II => Arat "Dick I" / Linda => Mandro) Jeremy des Deux Pottois (G'Bibber / Handy des Deux Pottois) G'Bibber (Cartouche => Arat "Dick I" / Yourie => Arat "Dick I") Handy des Deux Pottois (Cartouche => Arat "Dick I" / Fabienne du Boscaille) Lucas des Deux Pottois "Flash" (G'Bibber / Gina des Deux Pottois) G'Bibber (Cartouche => Arat "Dick I" / Yourie => Arat "Dick I") Gina des Deux Pottois (Gordon "Tarzan" => Arat "Dick I" / Female => Grobber, Blondeau) Othello des Deux Pottois (G'Vitou des Deux Pottois / Miki des Deux Pottois) G'Vitou des Deux Pottois "Varack" (Cartouche => Arat "Dick I" / Josque => Dick II) Miki des Deux Pottois (Toby2 => Arat "Dick I" / Maya van Hawaï => Cartouche)
The 'Deux Pottois' kennel later purchased Elgos du Chemin des Plaines (also known as 'Dax') - litter brother to 1993 French Ring finalist 'Dylick' LOF: 16491/2931. Elgos du Chemin des Plaines was a very successful working dog, he twice finished on the podium at World Mondioring Championships and was well-known for reproducing his deep grip and trainability. Elgos du Chemin des Plaines "Dax" (Atos / Barbie) Atos (G'Bibber => Cartouche / Phara de l'Attaman => consanguinity Rusky, Flap) Phara de l'Attaman => consanguinity Rusky, Flap A highly successful example of Elgos du Chemin des Plaines being combined with the Cartouche bloodline is Stoned van de Duvetorre. Breeder Mr Johan Weckhuyzen bred Elgos du Chemin des Plaines to Pita (Gaillard du Boscaille => Grobber / N'Yeska des Deux Pottois => consanguine Cartouche), a female whose maternal side is linebred 2-3 on Cartouche. The result of this combination was immediately positive with Stoned van de Duvetorre not only being a multiple participant at World IPO Championships, but also having a great number of descendants successfully competing in IPO, Campagne and Ring sports. Overall the 'Deux Pottois' kennels breeding program showed that some of their most influential dogs were based on the Cartouche bloodline with the inclusion of Flap and/or Rusky. Examples of this are: Ivan des Deux Pottois & Itusk des Deux Pottois (Cartouche / Fury des Deux Pottois) Cartouche (Castor van Kronenburg => Missou / Lis => Arat "Dick I") Fury des Deux Pottois (Dax des Deux Pottois / Erika des Deux Pottois) => Flap, Mulot N'Yeska des Deux Pottois (G'Vitou des Deux Pottois / Kamay des Deux Pottois) G'Vitou des Deux Pottois "Varack" (Cartouche => Arat "Dick I" / Josque => Dick II) Kamay des Deux Pottois (G'Bibber => Cartouche / Typsi van't Peersbos => Flap) Jill des Deux Pottois (G'Bibber / Hallix des Deux Pottois) G'Bibber (Cartouche => Arat "Dick I" / Yourie => Arat "Dick I") Hallix des Deux Pottois (Cartouche => Missou / Typsi van't Peersbos => Flap) Kassius des Deux Pottois (G'Bibber / Typsi van't Peersbos) G'Bibber (Cartouche => Arat "Dick I" / Yourie => Arat "Dick I") Typsi van't Peersbos (Kuno van't Peersbos => Duc van Schriekenhof / Elza => Flap) Stalone des Deux Pottois (Elgos du Chemin des Plaines "Dax" / Ondine des Deux Pottois) Elgos du Chemin des Plaines (Atos => Cartouche, consanguinity Rusky, Flap / Phara de l'Attaman => consanguinity Rusky, Flap) Ondine des Deux Pottois (G'Bibber => Cartouche / Maya => Cartouche, Flap)
Where the 'Deux Pottois' kennel used the above mentioned bloodlines, the 'du Boscaille' kennel created their breeding program by using other equally important bloodlines of Grobber, Blondeau, Yttro du Boscaille and Qu'rack du Bois d'Emblise (also known as 'Juan du Monastère Antique'). Qu'rack du Bois d'Emblise (Léobaro => Flap / Note van't Hofstedeken => César de l'Assa) in reality is 'Juan du Monastère Antique' and originates from the Belgian Kennel Club (Livre des Origines Belge). Qu'rack du Bois d'Emblise competed successfully in both Belgian Ring and the show ring and became the 1973 International and Belgian Show Champion. Grobber (Missou => Carak / Odette => Kamarade) was well-known for his working ability (1975 & 1977 Belgian Ring cat. 1 Champion) and powerful type. He was accessed through his two sons Espoir du Boscaille (also known as 'Micky') and Erk NVBK: 18168 (maternal grand-sire to Gabon du Boscaille). Espoir du Boscaille in reality is "Micky" and originates from the N.V.B.K. (Nationaal Verbond der Belgische Kynologen). He was purchased by the 'du Boscaille' kennel after being trained at the club of Leke and competing successfully in the VAV to Belgian Ring Cat.1. Espoir du Boscaille "Micky" (Grobber / Capor) Grobber (Missou => Carack / Odette => Kamarade) Capor (Rolf => Quarto / Fleure => Marco) Overall the 'du Boscaille' kennels breeding program showed that some of their most influential dogs came from the combination between Grobber and Qu'rack du Bois d'Emblise. Examples of this are: Gaillard du Boscaille (Espoir du Boscaille => Grobber / Zorina du Boscaille => Qu'rack du Bois d'Emblise), Hydro du Boscaille (Espoir du Boscaille => Grobber / Folly du Boscaille => Espoir du Boscaille) and Kim du Boscaille (Gabon du Boscaille => Erk / Flamme du Boscaille => Qu'rack du Bois d'Emblise). The 'du Boscaille' kennel later purchased Nik van Nedyehrevhof (Kit van Nedyehrevhof => Eik des Deux Pottois "Meno" / Kinma van Nedyehrevhof => Dick II). Nik van Nedyehrevhof was quite a tall dog who combined well with Kim du Boscaille descendants, examples of this are: Ximbo du Boscaille (Nik van Nedyehrevhof / Regina du Boscaille) Nik van Nedyehrevhof (Kit van Nedyehrevhof => Eik des Deux Pottois "Meno" / Kinma van Nedyehrevhof => Dick II) Regina du Boscaille (Kim du Boscaille => Erk / Jana du Boscaille => Grobber, Qu'rack du Bois d'Emblise)
Unik du Boscaille (Nik van Nedyehrevhof / Rebeca du Boscaille) Nik van Nedyehrevhof (Kit van Nedyehrevhof => Eik des Deux Pottois "Meno" / Kinma van Nedyehrevhof => Dick II) Rebeca du Boscaille (Kim du Boscaille => Erk / Jana du Boscaille => Grobber, Qu'rack du Bois d'Emblise) Yedi du Boscaille (Nik van Nedyehrevhof / Sissi du Boscaille) Nik van Nedyehrevhof (Kit van Nedyehrevhof => Eik des Deux Pottois "Meno" / Kinma van Nedyehrevhof => Dick II) Sissi du Boscaille (Kim du Boscaille => Erk / Querida du Boscaille => Grobber, Qu'rack du Bois d'Emblise).
